EXCERPT FROM A CURRENT DISCUSSION IN OUR MESSAGE BOARDS REGARDING THE CURRENT MOVIE: "S.W.A.T.":

I saw this yesterday and while I was apprehensive that this was going to be another tired Hollywood rehash of an old TV series, I must say that I was impressed. The basic story is about Colin Farrell's character a SWAT officer who gets demoted because of a messy rescue of some bank robbery hostages and some hotdogging by his partner. He gets a second chance at SWAT because Sgt. Hondo, played by Samuel Jackson picks him for his new team in order to piss off his boss who also demoted Colin Farrell's character. This new team is charged with escorting a French drug dealer to jail. On the way the drug dealer complicates matters by offering million to anyone who helps him escape.
The action in this film is extremely intense with some of the shootouts reminiscent of that old Deniro/Pacino flick, HEAT. There are enough twists in the story to keep it interesting. I also thought that plane landing on the bridge sequence was cool.
The only drawback would be that the make-Colin-Farrell-look-cool apparatus was turned up a little too high. When it's always the same person saving the day in every tense situation, it seems a little obvious and make the hero seem a little obnoxious.
Otherwise I would recommend this solid action flick for something to do on the weekend.
